Typical UK second-hand price
1–2ct heated blue: £400–£3,000; unheated fine stones much more
Colour and origin
Velvety cornflower Kashmir and rich 'royal blue' are most prized. Sri Lankan (Ceylon) stones are brighter and lighter; Australian and Thai stones can be darker. Padparadscha is a rare pink-orange.
Treatments
- Heat treatment is standard and accepted.
- Beryllium diffusion and glass filling reduce value sharply and must be disclosed.
Before you buy
- Ask whether the stone is heated and for any lab report.
- Have any high-value piece checked by an independent valuer or jeweller before paying. JewelleryTrader does not authenticate items.
Frequently asked questions
Is a heated sapphire bad?
No — most sapphires are heated. Unheated stones simply command a premium.
